Supertech Spring Style LMA for Honda B16 / B18c Engines

A popular upgrade for the Honda B Series VTEC Engines including the B16 and B18c is to upgrade the earlier model hydraulic Lost Motion Assemblies (LMA’s) to the newer spring style. The advantages of this system include:

  1. Reduced Valve Train Noise: The spring type LMA helps to reduce valve train noise by absorbing and minimizing the impact of valve lash. It ensures that the valves maintain proper contact with the camshaft, resulting in smoother and quieter engine operation.
  2. Improved Performance: The LMA system helps to maintain consistent valve lash, which is crucial for optimizing engine performance. By minimizing valve lash, the engine can achieve better valve timing and more precise control over the intake and exhaust cycles, resulting in improved power delivery and overall engine efficiency.
  3. Enhanced Durability: The LMA system helps to protect the valves and valvetrain components from excessive wear. By reducing valve lash and the associated impacts, the system helps to minimize valve stem and seat wear, resulting in improved longevity and durability of the engine.
  4. Reduced Maintenance: The spring type LMA system reduces the need for frequent valve adjustments. Unlike traditional solid lifters, which require periodic adjustments to maintain proper valve clearance, the LMA system automatically compensates for wear and maintains optimal valve lash, reducing the frequency of maintenance tasks.
  5. Compatibility with High-Performance Modifications: The LMA system is generally more tolerant of high-performance modifications such as aftermarket camshafts and valvetrain upgrades. It provides a degree of flexibility and compensation for changes in valvetrain geometry, reducing the need for extensive modifications or adjustments when upgrading the engine for increased performance.

The Supertech Lost Motion Assembly (LMA) kit replaces the factory piston-style LMA design with an improved spring design commonly found in newer generation Honda engines. Replacing LMA's are recommended when installing aftermarket camshafts and required when installing high-lift camshafts.
